Who is Westside Little League?

  • Westside Little League (WSLL) is a volunteer run, non-profit in Missoula, Montana whose purpose is to manage our Little League baseball teams and maintain our fields and grounds.


What is a “volunteer-run” organization?

  • Everyone from our Board of Directors, Parent Members, Coaches, Score Keepers, Concessions, Grounds crew, and Umpires are volunteers. Yes, even the bathrooms are cleaned by someone who volunteered. Generally we're folks with full-time employment and families. One seasonal worker helps with grounds keeping.
  • Teams are assigned a week to cover shifts in our concession stand during the season
    There are many tasks to accomplish, and we need your help to complete them successfully. VOLUNTEER APPLICATION
  • When Westside hosts a Montana District 2 All-Star Tournament, volunteers are needed for a successful event.


Who can play for Westside?

  • Players are eligible to play for Westside Little League by living within Westside boundaries, attending a school within the boundaries, or be grandfathered in (requires board approval).
  • Children League Age 5 -16 are eligible to be placed on baseball teams based on age and skill set.

What does it cost for my child to play baseball with Westside Little League?

  • The WSLL Registration fee is $120. This includes a chocolate fundraiser
  • Scholarships are available for players in need. Requests are handled case by case; call or email for information.
  • Team and individual pictures are taken professionally at the beginning of the season, and are available for purchase.


What gear does my player need?

  • T-Ball and Rookie Ball players need a baseball glove.
  • Minors & Above: glove, pants, cleats, athletic supporter. Optional: batting gloves, baseball bat, slide shorts.
  • WSLL provides a jersey and a hat for players, as well as baseball bats and safety equipment.
  • Players need to be appropriately dressed for the weather for practices and games.

Do we get to keep the uniform?

  • T-ball and rookie players will keep their hat and their team t-shirt.
  • Minors & Above will be issued a jersey to be returned at the end of the season.  Players will keep their team hats. Over the past few years, we've been replacing uniform sets to the newer fabrics and styles.
  • All-star teams will receive personalized uniforms.

When is registration?

  • Registration for returning players is open online in February with in-person registration for new (and returning players) scheduled for February-March. Late registration begins the end of March.
  • Specific dates will be posted in our calendar.


How are teams formed?

  • Teams are formed after registration closes and tryouts are held for our Minors and Majors.
  • Teams are formed randomly with consideration given to how many players come out, and skill-set within an age-range.
  • Requests are considered for younger teams, but not guaranteed.
  • Players Drafts are held for majors, then minors.
  • Coaches will contact players after their division rosters are finalized.

When does the season start/end?

  • Preseason runs from about mid-March through mid-April.

  • Opening Day generally marks the start with older teams typically playing games a week prior, and younger teams beginning games the week following. All divisions run through about the end of the school year. Specific calendars are provided at registration.

  • All-stars generally runs from mid-June through the tournaments in mid-July. Practices are held at the discretion of the coach, and have generally run weekdays, with the two tournaments played over 2 separate weekends as scheduled by the District 2 Little League.


What important events do I need to remember?

Aside from games, WSLL players and families will want to plan for the following events. Specific dates will be announced through email, facebook and on our website as they are scheduled.

  • Fundraising: Annually we host a board fundraiser and a player fundraiser. Dates for these will be announced during registration.

  • Clean Up Day: A day each spring for players and their families to prepare our fields and grounds for the season. Lunch provided.

  • Tryouts: Players trying out for a minors or majors level team will need to attend one of the two tryouts. We recommend attending both.

  • Opening Day: Players and families gather for a celebratory Opening Day. Teams are announced as they run onto the field, and the official “First Pitch” is thrown. Often followed by a scrimmage.

  • Team Pictures: These have been the same day as Opening Day, with each team allotted a time slot.

  • City Tournament: for minors and above, a single elimination tournament is played the last week of the season. Games start at the beginning of the week, winners advance to the next night.

  • All-stars: Nominations made toward the end of the season for Minors & above. Tryouts held after the regular season with preparation for two tournaments held mid-July against other District 2 Little League teams; winners advance to State Tournament. When WSLL hosts an all-star tournament, volunteers are needed to fill the roles necessary for a successful event.

Where do we play games?

WSLL is located on the cross streets of Spurgin Road and Tower Street which are located West of Reserve Street in Missoula, Montana. We are located adjacent to the Big Sky Horse Park, ½ mile from Big Sky High School and across the road from the Maverick's Legion Baseball field.

For Minors and above, other games will be held at other fields in Missoula, Lolo or Frenchtown. Maps are available HERE.


Parent Code of Conduct:

Volunteers, coaches, parents, guests, and players are expected to conduct themselves with good sportsmanship. Disagreements are expected to be resolved peaceably. Anyone who cannot abide by these guidelines will be asked to leave the area.
